Alliance Party Conference in the Ulster Hall...

Alliance Conference in the Ulster Hall. Paisley summoned a Mammoth Rally the same day outside the City Hall which is not far from Ulster Hall. I not at all anxious to go to Belfast in these circumstances, but thought it was necessary Nellie and I went in in our car which we left at Miss Lowes and then went on to City Hall in a taxi.

Conference well attended. Various guests including from both parties in Dublin and from London. Dublin invitees welcomed, first much to my indignation. Motions and speeches not as good as in previous year. All more stereotyped, with a growing resemblance to Unionist Conference though not got half so fixed.

Security was tight and there were two incidents. Our hall held 2000 and we understand Paisley had no more than that which was a disappointment to its organisers. Although we did not know it at the time Sir Robert Porter was one of the guests. A resolution was passing supporting the White Paper.
