[...] coming down by the famous Hirschgasse* where the students fight their duels. The ‘Mensur' was a big low room over an inn & was most gruesome, the floor being simply thick with blood marks. Luckily the students were all away, on holidays, as we would have been invited to stay and watch from the gallery!
