Felt very thankful baby was so healthy...

Elizabeth Holmes

Wife of Church of Ireland Minister and mother of three children

My little baby (Eileen Sophia) was born at ¼ past 4 in the afternoon. I felt poorly all morning & sent for Dr Nelson. He telegraphed for my nurse (Mrs Kells) to come but she did not arrive till 9 o’clock. Mrs Henry came in to help. I was only between two & three hours in much pain & had chloroform for about ½ an hour, felt very thankful baby was so healthy.

I spent the next fortnight upstairs & came downstairs on Sunday the 11th of May for the 1st time. The next day I was greatly upset by Mrs Kells leaving me suddenly. I went to church for the 1st time on Whit Sunday the 25th of May & received the Holy Communion & was churched. Nicholas lunched & spent the afternoon.
