Tyrone-native living in Italy during Mussolini's regime
I must see them*, I must have a talk with them. Was it possible? It was […] I really think I should write about it. All these people, peasants mostly, risk their lives in being kind to these men […] We passed the whole afternoon with the boys and I could hardly drag myself away from them.
I wanted to know so much […] I gave them a notebook and they wrote their names and addresses. I have hopes of getting these messages at least across the frontier […] All the time in the train this morning my head was busy planning escape for them. I must do something! God inspire me to help them!
*On hearing about and finding escaped British servicemen in the woods.
