I had to say mentally – forgive me dear God...

Roberta Hewitt

I was Godmother to Jill Maybin – a perfect baby and gave her my little silver spoon. It was a nice wee ceremony & I could accept all I was called on to subscribe too in my own way until it came to “the resurrection of the body” & I wanted to say “Stop – I don’t, can’t honestly swear to that.”

But it would have been so upsetting to all the good church people there and socially it would have been awfully poor taste. So before God and man I am committed to having said that Jill’s lovely wee body will arrive complete in heaven – it will not disgrace the heavens if it does and is an enlarged version of the present but I had to say mentally – forgive me dear God.

We had a lovely wee tea – as I handed over the spoon Maureen looked first at the silver-mark & then said it was nice.
