Visited the North Sea locks where the flooding is controlled, saw a working model of the reclaimed land and saw the flooding that was caused by the Germans during the war and of last year’s awful storm – it was awful to see this realistic model working.
I suppose it is a good thing – it is very clever but I would rather have a bit of ground where I had more foot security, I think. But maybe while you are worrying about your roots being washed away you care more for them.
There are times when I think a good flood or a wee volcano would do Ireland no harm. If she was fighting a heaven sent flood or fire she might forget her border, and her priests, partitioners and planters would have to work or flee side by side.
