Observer & supporter of the 1798 United Irishmen Rebellion
I drew the whole morning. The weather is too warm to take exercise. It is the finest I have seen in Ireland. How little are our feelings in unison with the bright sunshine.
A woman whom my mother sent to town today brings word that Lord Kingsborough and his officers have been taken out of jail (Mr Keogh’s influence could not prevent their long confinement there) and put on board a ship where they are in danger of being devoured by rats. 25 prisoners, she says have been brought in from the neighbourhood of Gorey.
They are to be confined in the Assembly room.
Some of our work people and servants took leave off as they are going to the rebel camp at Lacken. Some of them go reluctantly. This is the age of wonders.
