Today was the so-called Loyalist strike of the combined “loyalist” organisations Vanguard UVF UDA LAW etc all combined under Mr Craig who said demonstrations would be peaceful and no one who wanted to work would be prevented from doing so […] but the strike was disgraceful and disastrous.
There was much intimidation and hooliganism as was to be expected and Craig was extremely cool about the injuries and damage […] Father Courtney’s chapel at Willowfield Belfast was wrecked by hooligans and his house also- only a locked door was between him his curate and his housekeeper and these hooligans. The army arrived just in time to save them and they would probably have been killed if the army had not come.
