There was trouble last night in Belfast. In the Shankill policemen guarding the Polling Booth had rifles and uniforms taken. […] One cannot probably get really satisfactory results as long as the terrible violence continues though I think all the Protestants will vote no matter where they are as they are quite prepared to die sooner than to put with the Republic.
