Nurse during the First World War
Most beautiful day stayed in Strazeele all day got our washing it was an absolute knock out. Could not wear collars etc, met Canadian Sgt who has lost his sister & two brothers since war, it seems he comes with our train to Bore.
He told us we were quite safe in taking a long walk, we went to tell sister & on our way we met Cpt Stevenson he told us to hurry up & come to a concert so we rushed in put on our mess dresses & when we got out of the carriage we met Sgt again, he told us he had forgotten about concert until we had gone so he had come back for us.
The concert was good only the taubes* hovering over attracted me more than the performers in case they would bomb & the firing being heavy prevented our hearing very well. When we got home again we got warning that Huns** were coming so we had to get our gas helmets ready we did not undress in case we would have to go to a dugout during night.
