About the artist:

Dan Shipsides studied art at Blackpool College of Art and gained a BA in Fine Art at Leeds in 1993. In 1997, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts at the Ulster University where he has taught since 2006. He is currently an artist based at Orchid Studios, Belfast.

Shipsides’ practice encompasses a number of strands including performance, installation, video, photography, interactive sculpture and graphic artworks. He has shown a particular interest in some of the visual iconography of Northern Ireland and has explored ideas of reimagining the meanings of symbols and words, as in Love, which transforms the letters UVF (Ulster Volunteer Force) often seen as graffiti on walls across Northern Ireland.
