Cyclists share cross-community stories in the Blackwater River valley

Bike the Blackwater River was a cross-border project that brought cyclists together to cycle two routes along the Blackwater River valley and to share the history and heritage of the area, as well as regale some cycling stories.

The Blackwater River Valley area is a beautiful and undiscovered part of Ireland. The catchment of the river Blackwater meanders through glorious countryside and under countless bridges linking the border counties of Monaghan, Armagh, Fermanagh and Tyrone, ultimately flowing into Lough Neagh.

This project was delivered by the Making The Future team in PRONI in partnership with Truagh Development Association and Cycling Ireland.

A Cycling Event was held on the 5th of September with over 140 cyclists from counties Armagh, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Monaghan, and Cavan.

An online exhibition was also created for the project and you can now visit it at: https://www.biketheblackwater.org/
