Enniskillen teens collaborate to make their own culture inspired zines

A Culture Lab engagement programme with young people from Enniskillen and County Fermanagh came to a close recently as students worked together to create their own self-published zines inspired by their culture.

Beginning with a series of tours and workshops linked to the Troubles Art exhibition, which was on tour at Enniskillen Castle Museum, the group got an understanding of some of the key issues that have affected society over the last 50 years.

A visit to the galleries at the Ulster Museum followed, as well as a film screening, workshop of BME relations in the area and creative, digital and artistic workshops led by the Nerve Centre.

In a series of final sessions at Enniskillen Castle Museum, the young people explored issues of their individual culture and,  identifying common interests and individual traits, they created their own self-published paper based zines.

Following this, their work was transformed into a collaborative digital zine featuring elements of all their work, such as  self portraits, illustrations and key features.
