North West group explore Troubles Art through creative programme

An engagement programme linked to the Troubles Art exhibition at Nerve Visual has taken place in Derry~Londonderry over the last three months, concluding with artistic workshops linked to conflict textiles.

Facilitated by National Museums NI and Nerve Centre, participants from across the North West have taken part in a series of workshops and tours, including visits to the Troubles Art exhibition and to the Ulster Museum in Belfast amongst others, creative writing sessions and artist talks.

The programme concluded at the Tower Museum with textile creation workshops, led by artists Roberta Bacic and Breege Doherty.

This facilitated session allowed the group to gain an understanding of arpilleras before using the NMNI photograph collection of people during the Troubles as inspiration to create their own arpillera character linked to the image.
