Young YouTubers Reimagine UTV Archives

15 aspiring young Youtubers took part in a week-long programme this summer focused on developing their Youtube filmmaking skills and working with archival footage. The virtual programme brought participants together for a series of hands-on workshops with:

-- Robert Fitzhugh, from the Dublin Smartphone Film Festival, taught them how to film and edit on mobile devices and how to submit films to film festivals

-- PRONI staff introduced participants to UTV Archives and discussed issues of copyright and repurposing footage

-- Making the Future Creative Media trainer Jude Mullan explored audio recording techniques

-- YouTuber John D. Ruddy spoke to the participants about his Youtube filmmaking journey and gave them some practical tips.

Each day participants created short videos re-purposing UTV’s footage using different video styles, such as Tik Tok and voice-over narrations.

For participants, the programme offered an opportunity to enhance their Youtube filmmaking skills, to make new friendships, foster collaborations and consider new possibilities when it comes to making content.
